Foods to avoid for kidney health

Kidney is one the body organs, that if its efficiency downgrads, it will never regain its full functionality and efficiency again. As we know, being healthy and looking healthy starts from the inside. In other words, maintaining your kidneys health starts with what you eat and drink. I will be talking about foods to avoid for kidney health. Most people do not realize the dysfunctionality of their kidneys until it is a critical case which requires kidney dialysis.

Some of those foods, you can avoid, however treating yourself every now and then, will not cause any harm. Just make sure you are having a balanced eating habits in order to stay healthy.

Foods to avoid for kidney health

  • Stop the use of painkillers for long/daily use, moreover, read the prespreption of the medicine you are taking, if it has a bad side effect on the kidneys, do not take it.
  • Soda drinks in addition to energy drinks.
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Decrease protein intakes, such as red meal, as it contains large percentage of zinc which lower the absorption function of copper in the kidney.
  • Canned and processed food; due to their concentration of sodium.
  • Saturated fat.
  • Avocados, bananas, melons, oranges, prunes and raisins
  • Excessive intakes of spinach, potatoes and tomatoes
  • Bran products and granola
  • Beans (baked, black, pinto, etc.), brown or wild rice




  • Eat Fruits before your meal, not after.
  • Drink fresh juice and what is even better? fresh juice with no sugar.
  • Eat handful of nuts.
  • Drink lots of water, for every 10 KG of your weight, drink large cup of water. It is not good to wait till you feel thirsty.
  • Eat Apples, cranberries, grapes, pineapples and strawberries, cauliflower, onions, peppers, summer squash, lettuce.

A kidney-friendly diet may also help protect your kidneys from further damage. A kidney-friendly diet limits certain foods to prevent the minerals in those foods from building up in your body. Stay balanced adn well hydrated.
