So Hum Meditation

The yogic mantra which is “so hum” is not only a reflection of the sound of the breath but also carries a contemplative meaning: “I am that” (so = “I am” and hum = “that”). Moreover, “that” refers to all creation, the one breathing us all. The So Hum Meditation is an opportunity to mindfully focus on the mystery of being and to reflect upon the interdependent nature of all phenomenon revealed by the sages and confirmed by contemporary physics.

How To Practice “So Hum” Meditation?

Step1: Find a comfortable place where you can lay down or sit down comfortably without any disturbance.

Step 2: Scan your body and relief any tension. Start by focusing on each part of your body starting from your crown chakra. With every inhale, imagine bright light passing through and air passes out with impurities with every exhale. As you inhale, silently say “so” and as you exhale, say “hum.” Once the “so hum” rhythm has been established, begin to contemplate the meaning of “so hum.” As you inhale with the mantra “so,” say to yourself ” I am,” connecting to your essential self. Contemplate the source of your breath: Where is your breath coming from? Through visualization.

Step 3: You might find your thoughts wondering, it is ok. Go with the flow, do not resist. But rather, welcome your thoughts and let them pass by in peace.

Step 4: Feel free to take a power nap after the meditation is done.

Step 5: You can practice some yoga if you have spare time.
